Executive Leadership

Samantha Roberts - Chief and Executive Director

Now a senior at the University of Arizona, Samantha became a certified EMT in high school. Originally from Connecticut, she came to the University of Arizona to pursue a Dual Degree BS/BSHS in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science and Physiology. She plans to attend medical school to pursue a career in Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. Samantha joined University of Arizona EMS her freshman year and was quickly promoted to the positions of Personnel Officer and shift supervisor. She is also currently employed in the Banner University Medical Center Emergency Department and as an AHA CPR instructor. She looks forward to serving the community and contributing to UAEMS' growth in the coming years. 

Jeffrey Tolson - Assistant Chief

Jeff is currently a senior at The University of Arizona where he is completing a BS in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Biochemistry. Jeff received his EMT certification in September of 2015, and joined University of Arizona EMS in September of 2016. He quickly fell in love with emergency medicine and has aspirations to go on to medical school following his graduation in May 2018. Jeff is excited to be able to continue on in the Executive Leadership team after having served as the Deputy Chief of Operations for the 2016-2017 school year. In the new year, he will be working closely with campus and community partners to help UAEMS to continue to grow and provide the high quality pre-hospital care the agency is known for.

Luke Wohlford - Deputy Chief

Luke moved to Tucson in 2010 and has enjoyed serving in the community ever since. He graduated from BASIS Tucson North in 2014, then started at the University of Arizona. He is currently a senior and will earn a BSHS in Physiology, with minors in Mathematics and Public Health in May of 2018. Luke was uncertain about his future career until he earned his EMT certification from Pima Community College, and now he plans on attending medical school after graduation. After joining UAEMS in March of 2016, he joined leadership initially as a CQI officer. As the Deputy Chief of Operations in the 2017-2018 school year, Luke plans on maintaining excellence in all UAEMS operations in order to provide high-quality patient care well-suited for the University of Arizona population.

Captains

Emma Laird - Captain of Training

Born in Tucson, Emma lived in Washington state for 9 years before moving back to Arizona. Emma graduated from Marana High School in December of 2014 and started at the University of Arizona in January of 2015. She is currently a Junior at the U of A pursing a BS in Physiology and a BS in Psychology with a minor in Public Health. Emma obtained her EMT certification in 2015 from Pima Community College and was hired on to UAEMS in March of 2016. She has since been promoted to Shift Supervisor and Captain of Training. In addition to her work at UAEMS, Emma tutors for the EMT program at PCC, is a CPR Instructor and volunteers in the Sonoita-Elgin Fire District. She also holds her Wildland Firefighter Type II certification and is quickly becoming more interested in the fire service. In her free time, Emma enjoys shooting her bow and eating ice cream. Once she has completed her undergraduate studies, Emma plans on attending medical school with the hopes of becoming an Emergency Medicine Physician.

Faye Ortiz - Captain of Personnel

Faye graduated from the Academy of Our Lady of Peace in May 2014. In August of the same year, she made the move from San Diego to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona where she is majoring in Neuroscience with minors in Spanish, Psychology, and Biochemistry. After learning about UAEMS in her freshman year, she took the EMT-B course the following summer and was hired in Fall of 2015. In Summer 2017, she began working as Captain of Personnel. Her time in the organization convinced her to try other opportunities working as a first responder. The culmination of these experiences has altered the career path she originally set out for herself when entering college. Now, her post-graduate plans involve entering medical school with the intention of becoming an emergency department physician. During her time as Captain of Personnel, Faye hopes to make the experience for members just as rewarding for them as it was for her. 

Colleen Fay - Captain of Logistics

Colleen is an Arizona native, living in Gilbert, AZ until she moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona in August of 2014. She is currently a senior, pursuing a Honors Bachelor of Science in Psychology with minors in Physiology and Family Studies and Human Development. She joined University of Arizona EMS in February 2015 and obtained her EMT-B certification from Pima Community College in December 2015. Colleen worked as Logistics Officer and a Field Training Officer for the 2016-17 school. She became a field supervisor in January 2017 and Captain of Logistics in May 2017. She is currently apply to PA and nursing masters programs and hopes to pursue a further career in emergency or critical care medicine. Colleen looks forward to furthering UAEMS and the community through her position.
