Narcan/Naloxone
Narcan, also known by its generic name Naloxone, is a life-saving medication used to temporarily reverse an opioid overdose. It is only effective for overdoses involving opioids such as heroin or prescription pain relievers (e.g. oxycodone, morphine, fentanyl, hydrocodone, and methadone). With minimal training requirements, and packaged in an easy-to-use device, Narcan is a miracle drug that is proving to be a pivotal harm-reduction strategy in the battle against increasing opioid overdoses.
Narcan is available at every Pima County pharmacy, no prescription, or insurance required. It can also be found at every public library in Pima County. To see where Narcan is available near you click here.
UAEMS periodically hosts on-campus Narcan distributions for the general public. Check back to see when our next on-campus Narcan distribution is scheduled.
UAEMS is proud to provide Narcan training for campus groups and organization. If you are interested in setting up a Narcan training for a group or organization larger than 10 people, please reach out via: uems@arizona.edu
